Mars People Elite

Overview[]

A white-colored, far more powerful Mars soldier. First appeared in Metal Slug X in Mission 6, and would later appear in the torture chamber in Mission 5 of Metal Slug 3.

Costs 90 Medals in the shop. Available from version 1.24.0 onwards.

Normal attack: Fires three bullets that disperse vertically while moving forward. The top and middle bullets may miss short targets. Rather long startup.

Special attack: Leaps forward, firing five bullets, before teleporting back to its original position. When leaping, it has complete knockback resistance and will not be automatically targeted by enemies.

Sometimes abbrieviated MPE or EMP by players.

Tactics[]

  • This is mostly a defensive unit due to its great HP-to-AP ratio. The normal attack is terrible in the early game as one or two bullets will miss most early game units, but is fair in the late game when all the large units are out.
  • Use the special attack to leap in front of other units and buy them time when the frontline falls. This can also be used to block a Metal Slug attack, but this is extremely difficult.
  • As Mars People Elite is not targeted during its special, it finds a niche use in stalling enemy Smashers, a very common lead unit. As long as it didn't get in range to attack the Mars People Elite beforehand, the Smasher is forced to wait for the attack to complete before it can move forward and attack, allowing units behind the Mars People Elite to get a few extra attacks in.
  • If two or more Mars People Elite are out with their specials ready, alternating the specials can buy quite a lot of time, stalling rush units.

Trivia[]

  • In the original games, they moved with considerable speed, a far cry from their sluggish movement in Metal Slug Defense.
  • When initially released in version 1.24.0, they had a production speed of Normal. This made them easy to stack; a bunch of Mars People Elite using their specials was extremely powerful. In 1.25.0, their production speed was nearly tripled to Very Slow, and they became a very unpopular unit. Their production speed shortened slightly with each new version until they finally became a Slow-producing unit in 1.29.
